Govt sacks PTV MD over ‘begging’ fiasco
ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has removed Col (retd) Hasan Immad Mohammadi as Managing Director of Pakistan Television over ‘begging’ debacle.
A notification issued by the ministry on Nov 6 read: “In suppression of this Ministry’s Office order of even number dated 22, 10, 2018, the look after charge of Co. (R) Hassan Immad Mohammadi, Director, OTVC as Mangaing Director, PTVC is withdrawn with immediate effect and till further orders.”.
The move came two days after PTV made an embarrassing typo while broadcasting the speech of Prime Minister Imran Khan during his trip to China.
The state-run channel yesterday issued a formal apology after it ran “begging” instead of “Beijing” on screen during the live coverage of Prime Minister Khan’s speech.
The typing error went viral on social media platforms, prompting the government to launch an inquiry.
PM Khan was on an official trip to the country, where he was addressing a ceremony at a central party school in Beijing which was shown by the state-run broadcaster.
During the speech, PTV had written “begging” on screen instead of “Beijing” by mistake.
