KARACHI: Mayor Karachi, Waseem Akhtar, has said that Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) is facing severe shortage of funds due to which sufficient time is required for removing the debris scattered at different places in the city after anti-encroachment operation.
Talking to the media persons yesterday, Akhtar said the KMC has started this grand operation to remove all illegal encroachments on the order of the Supreme Court.
He also said that first information reports (FIRs) have also been lodged against all those mafia and elements who had illegally occupied lands in different parts of the metropolis.
Mayor further added that “A request has been sent to the chief minister Sindh for approval and we are waiting for it.”
He appreciated the performance of the anti-encroachment team and said that alternative places will soon be provided to the shopkeepers for running their routine business activities.
In response to a question related to PTI’s Khurram Sher Zaman who his criticisms over the entire operation and the mayor, Akhtar said: “they are still in the Kindergarten and they will soon learn how situations are dealt with.”
