ISLAMABAD: The truth about Nawaz Sharif’s corruption has finally come to the surface after the Al-Azizia reference verdict, said Prime Minister Imran Khan, on Monday.
“The truth has come out with the verdict against Nawaz Sharif,” said Prime Minister Imran Khan during a meeting he had chaired on the political and economic situation of the country.
Prime Minister Imran Khan was briefed about the Flagship Investment and Al-Azizia steel mills reference cases against Nawaz Sharif.
“Rulers only made money after coming into power … they failed to change the fate of the poor masses despite taking Rs24,000 billion in loans in last 10 years,” he was quoted as saying by The Express Tribune.
The prime minister also briefed his ministers about the party’s policy on the ongoing political and economic situation of the country so that they could defend the party on media appropriately.
An accountability court handed the former prime minister a fine of 2.5 million dollars.
The anti-graft court acquitted the former prime minister in a Flagship reference over lack of evidence.
Judge Arshad Malik ruled that Nawaz Sharif had failed to submit money trail in Al-Azizia steel mills case.
Nawaz Sharif himself was present in the courtroom as the judge handed down the sentence. The former three-time prime minister has been arrested. He will be moved to Adiala jail in an armored vehicle.
