Those defending Nawaz ‘should be ashamed’: Fawad Chaudhry
Fawad says Nawaz was unable to provide the money trail in court
ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was not able to provide money trail before the court. Those defending him should be ashamed of themselves, said information minister Fawad Chaudhry, on Monday.
“Nawaz Sharif failed to provide money trail to the parliament, people and now, to the court,” he said during a press briefing. “Those who are still defending him for selfish motives should be ashamed of themselves.”
He said that Nawaz Sharif had been convicted in an accountability court for looting the public’s wealth.
An accountability court handed the former prime minister a fine of 2.5 million dollars.
The anti-graft court acquitted the former prime minister in a Flagship reference over lack of evidence.
Judge Arshad Malik ruled that Nawaz Sharif had failed to submit money trail in Al-Azizai steel mills case.
Nawaz Sharif himself was present in the courtroom as the judge handed down the sentence. The former three-time prime minister has been arrested. He will be moved to Adiala jail in an armored vehicle.
