Govt to send names on ECL to review committee
ISLAMABAD: As per the directions of the Supreme Court, the federal cabinet decided to send the names of the 172 people on the ECL to a review committee, said information minister Fawad Chaudhry, on Wednesday.
The review committee would offer its suggestion to the government on whether or not the names of 172 people on the ECL deserve to be kept there or not.
“The federal government has decided to review names included in the Exit Control List as per the Supreme Court verdict,” said Fawad Chaudhry.
“For the progress in Karachi, cannot rely on the Omni group… Sindh’s two thousand billion rupees were spent on Dubai and London” he said. “A committee under the governor Sindh has been formed which will give suggestions on utilising centre’s money in Sindh including Karachi.”
The names of 172 people being probed in the fake bank accounts and money laundering case were put on the no-fly list by the government.
Among some of the prominent names put on the ECL are those of Bilawal Bhutto, Asif Ali Zardari, Faryal Talpur, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, Suhail Anwar Siyal and others.
Other items on the agenda were the approval of a $5 million grant for the Dubai Expo. The cabinet was also expected to discuss the exchange of prisoners by China and Pakistan as well as the chairpersons of the Greek Council.
The formation of a coordination committee was also on the cards.
