Lahore-based academic Dr Ammar Ali Jan released on bail
Dr Ammar Ali Jan, who was arrested by police on Saturday morning, was released on bail a few hours later on the same day.
The Lahore-based academic was taken into custody from his residence. He wrote on his Facebook status that he was “under arrest at the Gulberg police station”.
“There is an FIR against me for participating at the protest in Liberty against the killing of Professor Arman Loni,” he wrote on a Facebook post.
The FIR lodged against Dr Ammar Jan said that he was leading a group of 100-150 protesters of the Pashtun Ittehad Movement.
The FIR stated that he and other protesters were chanting slogans against state institutions and intelligence agencies.
Portests have broken out across Pakistan after the controversial killing of Professor Arman Luni in Loralai after a sit-in.
Eighteen protesters of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) were taken into custody from the National Press Club in Islamabad for taking part in a rally.
Last year in November, Jan was supposed to speak at the Faiz International Festival but he claimed that he was told a few hours before the event by organizers that he could not attend it.
