Over Rs1bln alleged corruption in land purchased for Gwadar railway station
Islamabad: Massive corruption up to the tune of Rs1 billion have been unearthed in purchase of land for the construction of Gawdar railway station, sources disclosed yesterday.
According to details, the land was acquired during the PML-N government and Khawaja Saad Rafiq was heading the Pakistan Railways. Documents in this regard have been surfaced.
A comprehensive report regarding alleged involvement of Saad Rafiq into the corruption and corrupt practices has been presented in the court and the ministry compiled this report on the court orders.
In addition, millions of rupees were also extracted at the name of engines repairing and diesel.
According to details, the former minister allegedly extracted Rs200 million on the pretext of repairing engines. However, no engine could be repaired with that money.
As many as Rs160 millions worth spare parts were stolen from Railway stores and over Rs140 millions distributors were stolen also. During an inquiry, higher officers were found involved in the corruption of over Rs70 million.
Railway officers from Karachi and Lahore have allegedly made over Rs50 million corruption over the name of development work whereas Rs20 million was extracted at the name of advance. More than Rs 1.6 million was extracted from ticketing department.
