Peshawar High Court judge, driver wounded in targeted attack
PESHAWAR: In the wee hours of today unidentified armed assailants opened fire at the car of Peshawar High Court judge Justice Mohammad Ayub leaving him injured along with his driver.
Sources disclosed that the incident occurred in Hayatabad’s Phase 5 area, when unknown assailants shot at the car of Justice Ayub.
The car of the judge came under attack from all sides as the attackers on motor bikes opened indiscriminate firing, said Cantt Superintendent of Police (SP) Qaseem Riaz.
Following to the attack the judge and his driver rushed to a nearby hospital for getting emergency medical aid.
Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Waqar Ahmed Seth said the judge was shot in his arm and his condition is out of danger now.
“I have asked the police to apprehend the attackers as soon as possible,” Justice Seth said.
Subsequent to the incident, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan Bar Council has called for a strike today after boycotting today’s proceedings of the court.
Moreover, lawyers demanded that the perpetrators behind the attack should be arrested soon.
Justice Mohammad Ayub Khan was appointed as the judge of Peshawar High Court in 2017. Before his elevation, he served as judge of accountability court in Peshawar.
He also rendered services as district and sessions judge and remained posted at various stations.
