Armed men in Vigo kill 2 ‘for joy’ in Karachi’s DHA
KARACHI: Two men, including a constable were killed and another was injured as armed men shot them ‘for joy’ whilst in a drunken state, on the wee hours of Sunday.
According to SSP South Pir Muhammad Shah, the armed men were under the influence of drugs and had shot dead the two men ‘for joy’.
The names of the deceased are Ramzan, 28, and Khalid Mehmood, 35. The man injured in the firing has been identified as Saeed Ahmed, 30.
The firing incident took place near Misri Shah shrine, on Khayaban-i-Bukhari, street 25, DHA Phase-VI.
Police said that they had received information that two armed men were traveling in a Vigo which shot dead the two men and injured the third.
The constable killed in the exchange of fire was not wearing a uniform but was in plain clothes as he was deputed to stop robberies in shops.
JPMC Director Dr Seemi Jamali said that the constable and the civilian were brought to the hospital dead. She said that the civilian had died from a wound to the chest while the constable had been shot in the head.
She said that Saeed, the injured person, had suffered from wounds to the chest, neck and shoulders.
SSP Suhai Aziz said that the men were drunk when they carried out the killings. She further revealed that police had conducted interviews of eyewitnesses and obtained details pertaining to the vehicle used in the crime.
“CCTV footage and ballistic material as well as other evidence have also been taken into account,” she said.
Police conducted a search for two drunken men in different hospitals. They found one of them, Nazeer Sardar Qandhari at Agha Khan University Hospital in a drunken state. He was identified by an eyewitness and a wounded man.
SP Suhai Aziz said that Qandhari had allegedly killed a person last year in Defence as well. She said that he was a habitual user of the drug ice and used to drink alcohol frequently.
“Qandhari had attended a party in the area with three friends. There’s no motive for the killing,” she said.
