KARACHI: The newly formed Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) has planned to organize first major tournament Inter-City Football Championship but the federation is facing hurdles in holding Sindh-leg tournament.

While talking to reporters, PFF Secretary Muhammad Siddique Sheikh said that the tournament would promote and develop football at grass-root level.

PFF Secretary said that the trials’ process has started all across Pakistan including interior Sindh.
He alleged that PFF trials faced hurdles in Karachi as Sindh Football Association (SFA) and district officials have been hindering the trials process.

Secretary PFF said that anyone hindering PFF work were in direct contempt of court orders.
“We want to do work and we will be holding this tournament successfully. But we want to stay away from controversies for a moment before FIFA fact finding comes,” he said.

He added that PFF has prepared its case well and hopefully FIFA would be taking a decision in its favor as everyone knows what has happened to football and majority of the country has faith in the present setup and “they support us”.

Siddique believes that FIFA had been convincingly misguided in the past but this time his team has kept Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and FIFA duly in the loop in all of its decisions and processes.

It is worth mentioning here that a total of 40 teams will be playing qualifying round and eventually 13 teams – three from Punjab, two each from Sindh, Balochistan and KPK and one each from AJK, Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad and FATA will qualify for the final round, which will be played from April 22 to May 3 in Islamabad, Bahawalpur and Multan.
