Indian election panel bars release of Modi biopic
ISLAMABAD: India’s election panel on Wednesday halted the release of a biopic on Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of the national elections.
The Bollywood film starring Vivek Oberoi was due to release across India on April 11.
The Election Commission told the producers of PM Narendra Modi that the film cannot be allowed to release in view of the Lok Sabha elections.
“You are directed not to exhibit the film till further orders,” it said, according to Hindustan Times.
The commission has also decided to set up a committee headed by a retired Supreme Court judge to look into complaints on this topic.
“Any film that subserves purpose of any political entity or individual should not be displayed in the electronic media including movie halls,” it said.
The first phase of the Lok Sabha elections starts on Thursday.
