Mehwish Hayat ‘disappointed’ after Amitabh refused to play Pakistani role
KARACHI: Subsequent to Amitabh Bachchan’s refusal on playing the role of a Pakistani protagonist in a peace-building movie, Pakistani actress Mehwish Hayat has expressed disappointment over his decision.
Mehwish expressed disappointment on her official Twitter handle, saying “If true, this is very disappointing. Movies have the power to build bridges especially when tensions are high.”
Actress added in her tweet that “in the end, nationalism trumps everything.”
“I hope that we can also take heed before we gush about all things Bollywood in future”, she added.
Amitabh was to play a role of Pakistani in Oscar-winning sound designer Resul Pookutty’s directorial debut.
The Indian actor reportedly rejected the role because of the escalating tensions between both countries following to Pulwama incident and for being called as anti-nationalist.
