Darul Sehat Hospital ordered to close over minor’s death
KARACHI: The Sindh Health Care Commission (SHCC) has sealed off outpatient departments of Darul Sehat Hospital in Karachi over the death of a toddler due to staff’s suspected negligence.
The hospital administration has been given 48 hours to transfer the admitted patients to other health facilities.
The move came shortly after Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah ordered closure of the hospital on Wednesday.
Shortly after the CM’s order, hospital staff held a protest and chanted slogans against the government.
Carrying placards and banners, hospital employees called for the government to reverse its decision, saying this would put their career on the line.
On the other hand, large number of citizens gathered outside the hospital and supported the government’s decision to shut down the facility for patients.
The SHCC team also reached the hospital in police security and sealed off dentist block and OPDs
Speaking to media persons, SHCC chairman Tipu Sultan said that more than 50 patients were under treatment in different wards.
The patients include women and children who could not be evicted from the hospital.
Under the law, it was mandatory for the admitted patients to get the treatment.
