Time’s up: DG ISPR warns Pashtun Tahafuz Movement
RAWALPINDI: Director-General Major General Asif Ghafoor on Monday warned the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) by saying clearly “Your time’s up”.
Speaking to media on various issues, the DG ISPR said that the PTM had received funds from India and the Afghan intelligence.
“Actually we care about the people that you (PTM) are trying to incite,” he said. “Army chief had told me to deal with them with patience. Now I want to tell you, your time is up,” he added.
General Asif Ghafoor said that while taking action against the PTM, the instructions of the army chief will be followed.
“The instructions of the army chief will be fully followed. People will not face any sort of problem and neither will any unlawful path be adopted,” he said.
DG ISPR asked that where were Manzoor Pashteen, Mohsin Dawar and Ali Wazir Khan (senior leadership of the PTM) when people’s heads were being chopped off and football was being played with it.
Major General Asif Ghafoor said that he had met Mohsin Dawar and had heard his demands. He said that Dawar had asked for demining the tribal belt after which 48 teams were created.
“Forty-five percent of these areas were cleared,” he said. “Their [PTM’s] next demand was about clearing away checkposts. Pak Army has lost thousands of soldiers at these checkposts.
“[The issue of] missing persons were their third demand [and] they created a list of those missing persons. The list has shortened to 2,500 cases today and the [missing persons] commission is working day and night to resolve those cases.
“These demands were not even their [PTM’s] demands, the demands are of the people that live there,” he added.
Asif Ghafoor asked the PTM leadership to clarify as to how many funds they had received from the Afghan National Directorate of Security to run their campaign.
“Tell us, how much did you received from R&AW for the Islamabad dharna?” he asked.
The DG ISPR said that when SP Tahir Dawar was murdered in Afghanistan, the PTM asked the Afghan government to hand over the body to the Dawar tribe and not the government of Pakistan.
He alleged that NDS had given funds to the PTM when Arman Loni had been killed and also for the subsequent dharna that followed his murder.
