PTM not an issue in itself, few pursuing foreign agenda: COAS
PESHAWAR: Few individuals pursuing foreign agenda are using the people who have actually suffered from conflict and playing to their sentiments, said the army chief.
General Qamar Javed Bajwa was speaking at the Corps Auditorium at Peshawar. He said that the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement was not an issue as some problems raised by the movement were genuine and people actually suffered from them.
“The Pashtun Tahafuz Movement itself is not an issue. The issues being highlighted are genuine and natural in post operation environment,” he said.
He said that a few people were using the sentiments of people who had suffered genuinely because of war and conflict.
“Few individuals playing in foreign hands are by design exploiting sentiments of the people who have actually suffered at the hands of terrorism and now need care,” she said.
The army chief said that both the government and the armed forces were ensuring that the people of the tribal areas were provided facilities without discrimination.
“For us progress towards enduring peace through socio-economic development comes first and we shall fail all inimical forces and their conspiracies trying to undo our gains,” he said.
The comments by the army chief come a few days after DG ISPR said that the PTM’s time was up.
In his media briefing, the DG ISPR had made it clear that the PTM was about to face legal action.
He alleged that the PTM had received funds from NDS and R&AW to carry out protests and dharnas in Pakistan.
