Avengers Endgame topples Titanic, threatens Avatar’s record
NEW YORK: The latest Marvel film, Avengers Endgame, is on record breaking spree as it has become the second highest grossing film of all times, a media report said.
The Avengers Endgame has already dethroned Titanic with a collection of $2.189 billion (approximately Rs 15190 crore), The Hollywood Reporter said.
Titanic starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet had earned $2.187 billion in 1997 and Cameron’s 2009 sci-fi film Avatar collected $2.8 billion at the global box office, THR added.
Avengers Endgame has earned $145.8 million in US markets alone while collecting $282.2 million overseas in its second weekend.
Despite registering a 55% drop on its second weekend, the film went on to earn a gigantic $428 million in its second weekend at the worldwide box office.
Avengers Endgame needs an additional $600 million to become the all-time box office hit, Forbes reported. Avatar had a re-release that took its earning from the original $2.749 billion to the final $2.788 billion.
The latest Avengers film has become one of the five films to have passed the $2 billion mark globally. Avatar ($2.78 billion), Titanic ($2.187 billion), Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($2.06 billion), and Avengers: Infinity War ($2.04 billion) share space with Avengers Endgame on the list.
