Stop fooling people in the name of South Punjab, Ahsan Iqbal tells FM Qureshi
ISLAMABAD: PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal said that Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi was fooling people in the name of South Punjab province.
The former interior minister was responding to Qureshi’s press talk in which he urged both the PPP and the PML-N to support PTI’s bill for the creation of South Punjab province.
Ahsan Iqbal said the PML-N had already presented a bill in the National Assembly for the formation of the South Punjab and Bahawalpur provinces.
He said that the PML-N bill was opposed by the PTI.
Iqbal added that the PML-N bill was already with the standing committee, calling on Qureshi to look into this matter immediately.
Addressing a news conference in Multan on Wednesday, FM Qureshi said the PTI has already introduced a Constitution Amendment in the National Assembly for this purpose and “we require two thirds majority to pass this amendment.”
The Foreign Minister said that he already had a positive sitting with Pakistan Peoples Party and consultations will be held with other parties including the PML (N) to convince them to support the Constitution Amendment.
Highlighting salient features of the Constitution Amendment, the Foreign Minister said under this amendment, South Punjab will comprise of Multan, Bahawalpur and Dera Ghazi Khan Divisions.
The seats of South Punjab Assembly will be 120 keeping in view the population of these divisions.
