KP bans vendors from selling food item in newspapers
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has banned vendors from selling food items wrapped in newspapers to prevent health issues.
The KP food safety authority has issued the order on recommendation of its scientific committee which stressed that consumption of newspaper ink can cause cancer.
The vendors have been barred from wrapping newspapers on food items like bread, dumplings and other food items that contain oil and water.
“Harmful chemicals such as lead, phthalate, cadmium along with inedible colours, pigments, binders, additives, preservatives and graphite are absorbed by the food that is later consumed by people,” said Halal Food Authority Director Abdus Sattar said in an interview.
The vendors have been advised to find an alternative to newspapers. The ban will be implemented from June 14.
Stringent actions will be taken against those who violate the ban.
